Got the Wintertime Blues? Seasonal Depression (SAD)

January 27, 2016 by @candesscampbell

I am delighted to have this guest blog by Dr. Patrick Dougherty. He is one of the most pure healers that I know. I am indebted to him for being such an incredible support in my own life over the years!

The days are starting to get longer, but it is still beginning to get dark by 5 pm. There are fewer sunny days. For many people the gray on the outside mirrors gray on the inside.

Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) incidence in the Pacific Northwest is estimated to be as high as 30% in adults. SAD is the depression, lethargy, fatigue and even detachment from life that many feel as the sun becomes a memory. Many health professionals attribute SAD, at least partially, to vitamin D3 deficiency.

Vitamin D3 is a fat soluble hormone, a chemical messenger for about 2000 chemical processes in the human body. D3 deficiencies are found in most autoimmune diseases, especially Multiple Sclerosis which has a much higher incidence in the Pacific Northwest; and in most cases of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.

No surprise that D3 could be a factor in SAD. If you are one of the millions living under an emotional dark cloud in the winter you might be interested in this account of a recent patient visit in my chiropractic office.

The patient had suffered two significant head and neck traumas in a little more than a two month period. Treatment consisted of various interventions designed to help her brain, her pain and her headaches. On this day she stated that she was catching a cold. Whenever this happens I offer the patient a 25,000 IU dose of liquid vitamin D. Often this stops the cold flu symptoms in their tracks.

The next day I received a call from a very excited woman who wanted to come in and purchase a bottle of D3 liquid. She not only had no cold, but her brain had more clarity and her mood was better than it had been in a long time. A happy husband paid the $28 cash price for a 6 month supply of liquid D3.

I recommend D3 for just about everyone, I like the liquid D3 because all hormones are fat soluble and, I believe, more easily utilized in liquid form. D3 is good for the whole family, and for most people it costs less than 20 cents a day. If you have the wintertime blues, come in and get your own bottle of D3.

January Astrological Forecast

January 6, 2016 by @candesscampbell

Spokane

January 1st: Mercury enters Aquarius at 6:20 pm PST. The planet Mercury arrives in the humanitarian sign of Aquarius on the first day of the 2016 New Year with a message of hope for unifying cultural, political, and religious divisions. A similar Aquarian theme of “We Came in Peace for All Mankind” was broadcast to Earth on July 21, 1969 by astronaut Neil Armstrong as he placed the first human footsteps on the surface of the Moon.

January 3rd: Mars enters Scorpio at 6:33am PST.  Fiery Mars plunges into the murky depths of the water sign of Scorpio through March 5th fueling an intense terse relationship between the elements of fire and water. Fortunately, Mars will enter the fire sign of Sagittarius on March 5th where the great warrior planet will be in a much more familiar arena.

January 5th: Mercury turns retrograde in Aquarius at 5:06 am PST.  Within just 4 days of Mercury’s arrival in Aquarius the agile messenger planet reverses its direction back to the sign of Capricorn on January 8th at 11:37 am PST. Mercury will remain in retrograde for the next 20 days providing a collective opportunity to slow down our activities and communications helping us determine what we value and want as we step forward in 2016.

January 7th: Jupiter turns retrograde in Virgo at 8:40 pm PST. The planet of far reaching journeys, higher education, justice, publishing & spirituality reverses its direction in the sign of Virgo  at 23 deg 14 min. Walt Disney was born with his Ascendant in the meticulous detailed sign of Virgo that led him to success with a favorite quote “The magic is in the details”.

January 9th: New Moon in Capricorn at 5:30 pm PST.  The first New Moon of the New Year initiates the 2016 Lunar Cycle.  Today’s New Moon receives support from a Venus/Saturn conjunction in the sign of Sagittarius to define values and establish structures for each individual or entity in the Global Village. Today’s New Moon in Capricorn presents an optimal opportunity to reaffirm any New Year resolutions.

January 20th: The Sun enters Aquarius at 7:28 am PST.  The Sun emerges from the stoic sign of Capricorn to embrace the broad vistas of the Aquarian sky for the next 29 days. The Chinese New Year is based on the arrival of the New Moon in the sign of Aquarius each year that will take place on February 8, 2016.

January 23rd: Venus enters Capricorn at 12:32 pm PST and Full Moon in Aquarius/Leo at 5:46 pm PST.  Lady Venus arrives in the earth sign of Capricorn just in time to help fine tune the frequencies & harmonics of today’s expansive Full Moon as it perfects at 3 deg29 min of longitude this evening with the Sun in Aquarius opposite the Moon in Leo. This is a good day to enjoy art, literature, music, and let your inner muse shine.

January 25th: Mercury turns direct in Capricorn at 1:50 pm PST. Fleet-footed Mercury steps forward for the second time this month in the sign of Capricorn at 14 deg 54 min of longitude providing us with an opportunity to retrace, revise, and revisit our agreements, communications, decisions, and plans as we implement our goals in 2016 with Many Happy Returns To All in the Year Ahead.

Manifesting in the New Year!

December 16, 2015 by @candesscampbell

As you focus on the New Year you may be taking a look backward and reflecting on the current year. Your resolutions may be the same as last year or you have a something new ahead of you. Generally when I ask people what their last year’s resolutions were, they don’t remember. That was how it was for me too! Rather than making resolutions, now I pick one word for the year. This is one word I focus upon to increase in my life.

IMG_4948

One year the word was money and I became more responsible by understanding my spending, my saving and my earnings. I spent time talking to those who had a grasp on money, got all of my financial information together in one place, and read information about abundance. My behaviors and excitement about increasing my revenue created the law of attraction. That year I increased my income by 25%. When you bring your attention to something, it increases.

Another year my focus was on food. I watched more “foody” shows on television, bought foods I had not tried before and made food like cauliflower, which has a lot of nutrients a staple in my life. I made green smoothies and my body glowed from all the enzymes. I increased my awareness of how food affects my health (and my mood!) I also lost weight.

This year I have shifted the way I look at manifesting and abundance. I used to get really specific about what I wanted to create. Although I do manifest really well, now I don’t limit the way I manifest by focusing on the particulars. Instead I focus on the feelings that come with having that manifestation. I experience my life as if I already have what it is I desire.

My word for 2016 is Allow. So often when I am working with clients I see them get clear on what they want, but then resist or reject the opportunities that come to them. I learned from this and will no longer bat away the opportunities that show up. I am becoming clear on what I resist and Allowing!

Join with me this season in choosing one word you would like to invite into your life in order to create the experience you desire. Have a Happy New Year!

The Queen Archetype

December 6, 2015 by @candesscampbell

The creativity of your subconscious mind not only shows up in dreams, but also shows up as archetypes in your life. Archetypes are overlying patterns that show up in all cultures that are seeded in the psyche. Some examples of archetypes are queen, mother, judge, teacher and healer. When you begin to look at these patterns in your life, you can unleash your creative energy.

The shadow aspects of our archetypes are fed by our paradoxical relationship to power. We are as intimidated by being empowered as we are by being disempowered.

– Caroline Myss

Whenever I explore an archetype, it is fun to write about one where I have personal experience. In this case, I am writing about my friend’s archetype.

Several years ago at a Conference with Brendon Burchard in Santa Clara, I met an incredible woman, Katie Cavanaugh. We spent the whole workshop learning together and getting to know each other. It was a collaborative relationship made in heaven. We decided to be business mentors for each other and have Skyped every week since.

In addition to focusing on business, we became fast friends. In 2012, she hosted and facilitated the Healer’s Gathering Workshop at the HarmonyHouse in Sisters, Oregon. I was delighted to be invited to be a keynote speaker. I decided to facilitate a DNA Activation with this group of 100 participants. She invited me to come and stay with her in the guest room (which is now called Candess’s room!)

Katie planning Gathering

As the pre-event unfolded, her house began to fill up with other guests and eventually I was moved to a blow up bed in her office. I found myself reacting, feeling hurt and angry. It just happened that my friend Cheyenne from Colorado was visiting her friend near Sisters and I was able to meet with her and talk. Cheyenne and I have known each other for many years and she is like a sister to me. She helped me realize that my control issue here was a safety issue and these kinds of reactions generally manifest for me in my own home and wherever I sleep.

Before the event I felt I needed to meet with Katie and clear what happened for me. I invited Katie to have lunch with Cheyenne, her friend and I so we could talk. The three of us were seated at a patio table as Katie walked in. She was majestic in her presence, carrying herself with confidence and grace. She sported a large smile and introduced herself and the whole ambience changed. Cheyenne said as soon as she saw her – she is a Queen. I immediately got it. My friend Katie Cavanaugh had the Queen archetype! We talked about my reaction to being downgraded from my own room to a blow up bed and just being able to share this with Katie created the safety I needed.

More importantly, knowing that Katie had the Queen Archetype shifted my relationship with her and I was able to understand and honor how amazing she is and how delighted I am to work with this powerful, intrepid woman!

You may have Queens in your life as well.

Characteristics of the Queen Archetype

  • Makes sure everything is exactly as it should be
  • Takes charge
  • Dominates her court and give orders
  • Is benevolent and takes care of her subjects
  • Is dignified, striking and awesome
  • Has a clear sense of responsibility
  • Plans and gets things done
  • Imparts to her subjects what she believes in important
  • Empowers her subjects to connect to the community and return to her

Shadow side of the Queen

  • Demanding
  • Aggressive
  • Vengeful
  • Heads will role if they don’t follow the rules

Having realized the nature of the Queen Archetype, I understood even more clearly the value of my friendship and collaborative relationship with Katie Cavanaugh. My main archetype is that of a Spiritual Teacher, but my energy is soft and responsive. When I watched her facilitate the Healer’s Gathering I was awed as many of us are in the presence of her majestic command.

Caroline Myss, a medical intuitive and the author of Sacred Contracts, a book on archetypes, has been my mentor through her workshops and books for nearly 20 years. She also has the Queen Archetype. In fact, I think many of the powerful women I have sought out as teachers share this quality.

By understanding and working with the Queen Archetype you will learn to identify these characteristics in yourself or in others. If you have the Queen archetype, be aware of how you affect others in your life. Your intensity may be misunderstood. Use your powerful persona to influence and guide others. Surround yourself with friends who support your vision and are willing participants in your Queendom!

If you have friends, family or co-workers who have the Queen Archetype, take a look at how you can benefit from their ruling and how you can support yourself and the Queen by this awareness. Share with them what you have learned and find your place in the royal family.

Awareness of the Archetypes can help you heal yourself and access your natural path to move toward your Divine Soul purpose.

The Ugly Duckling

November 20, 2015 by @candesscampbell

“A wonderful fact to reflect upon, that every human creature is constituted to be that profound secret and mystery to every other.”
― Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities

November 1843, Hans Christian Andersen’s story, The Ugly Duckling was published in Copenhagen, Denmark. This amazing fairy tale has been read and re-read by adults and children alike, all over the world.

duckThe story, as you probably know, is about a baby bird raised by a mother duck in a flock of other ducklings. The bird was teased and bullied unmercifully throughout his life, because he looked different and behaved differently. As an adult, the bird sought out and joined a flock of swans finding them to be beautiful birds. Although he expected the same abuse, the swans were open to his joining with them and they accept him. One day this ugly duck saw his reflection in the water and realized he was not an ugly duck at all, but really was a beautiful swan. He found his flock and fit right in. He was transformed.

Common to all of us is the desire to be heard, seen and understood. Many of us can relate to this archetypal story of not fitting in and finding ourselves teased, attacked or excluded. We continued to look for and hoped to find “our people”, our flock or our tribe. In the journey of doing so, we often changed our opinions or beliefs. Sometimes we gave up our voice and became silent, all in an attempt to fit in.

So often I hear someone telling another person what “the truth” is and insist on what they “should” be doing or thinking. Communication becomes about what is right or wrong. Opinions become polarized and those who do not agree with either the loudest voice or the group voice can be intimidated, shamed or alienated.

Over the years, the precious beliefs developed as young people get lost in the mass of voices and one’s self-esteem takes a hit. So often when working with clients, the undercurrent of their situation is a feeling of being unworthy or undeserving. How others have treated them guides their beliefs about themselves.

What would happen if, instead of stating your opinion and telling someone what you think, you asked the person to explain more about what they were saying? Wouldn’t it be interesting to see how your relationships change if you went into conversations with the sole purpose of understanding their point of view. How would your posture change if you were there just to receive, to just hear the story?

I invite you in the month of December, and hopefully throughout the next year, to practice “just listening.”

Now, there will be times to share your opinion and have debates of course, and to enjoy the fun and creativity of a dispute, but let’s change it up a bit. Think about a few people in your life that are important to you. Make a conscious choice to have a couple conversations with them where you just “hold the space” for their musings, for their sharing, for how they see the world. Experience them deeply. Look into their eyes and be present to them. Give them the gift of being heard, seen, and understood. Bring them into your fold and see them as the swan they truly are. Allow your loved ones to be transformed by the incredible generosity of your listening.
