Here are some second chakra tools that bring pleasure, nurturance and healing balance to the body.
As with the first chakra, grounding is important in the second chakra. Movement is inherent in the workings of this chakra and can aid grounding. Gently moving to music is a self nurturing way to get connected to your body and to ground. I particularly like Gabrielle Roth’s music for this purpose. Gentle yoga, Qigong and Tai Chi are also helpful for grounding.
Feel your feelings. So often in our culture we are taught to say “I’m sorry” when we find ourselves crying or expressing feelings. It is important to feel your feelings when they come up. It is not necessary to understand why you are feeling what you are feeling or even why you feel as you do. When you feel like crying, cry. When you are angry, feel the anger, notice that you are experiencing anger and feel the feelings. When we feel our feelings they go away.
Journaling with your inner self or your inner child is extremely helpful to heal the issues of the second chakra. Find yourself a journal, not a fancy journal, but a 3 ring spiral notebook where you can scribble if you need to. Write a letter to your inner self, that part of you that tries to get your attention, but you are too busy or distracted to listen. Make a commitment that to check in with yourself through a journal process daily. Set a timer for 20 minutes and journal whatever comes up. Take notes from books you are reading or jot down memories that surface that you may want to examine later in your journal.
Boundary issues which include lack of boundaries and rigid boundaries are affected by the second chakra. Become aware of your boundaries. Do you tend to stand too close to people or are you uncomfortable when touched? Do you share too much or do you tend to keep your feelings to yourself? Do you have several friends but don’t share your true feelings? Is your only close friend your cat? Do you find you know more about your neighbors than the more intimate parts of yourself? Find a book on boundaries if you have sense this is a problem for you.
Allow yourself healthy pleasures. Journal to find out what you find pleasurable. Walk along the river, venture to the ocean, and take a long walk or an overnight trip to a nearby city. Rent 3 movies starring your favorite actress or actor and take a Sunday to have a cinematic binge. Get a massage, have a cup of aromatic tea in fine china or visit your local museum. Explore something new and begin to experience pleasure.
For those with an addiction, 12 step meetings are the best answer for most people. Check out the local Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Al-Anon, Overeaters Anonymous, and Gambler’s Anonymous meeting in your neighborhood.
