It was a long, snowy winter for many of us in the northern US and spring is a welcome change! I found myself sedentary and isolating, with the exception of my twice weekly jaunts to Spokanimal to cuddle and walk dogs. Having Domingo move to Dog Heaven in July 2016, my mantra has been “I’m not ready,” as I showed up week after week.
It reminds me of the Three Bears story. There were several dogs I fell in love with but they were not just right.
In an intuitive image, I saw the dog that was coming into my life, but images are not always clear. I knew the dog would be light colored, with some curl to his hair and would barely shed. I talked to friends about Labradoodles and other dogs that may look like this. I actually ended up adopting a poodle, but Quinn and I were not a good fit, so I returned him so he was able to find his true home. I was on the right intuitive track, but he was not the right choice.
And then I found Gummidge. Not sure where the name came from but I found it is the name of a Scarecrow Character in an English Fairy tale.
I walked and cuddled Gummidge and I knew he was an Angel. I wanted to take him immediately, but had to get back to work and I also like to “sleep on things.” I pondered his name and decided I would keep Gummidge out of respect for him and add Angelo. Gummidge Angelo. We’ll call him Angel!
Wednesday morning I was there as soon as the shelter opened and we became family! I loved having him with me in the car (and yes I do use a halter.)
Immediately I was happier and had more energy. The next morning he walked me for 40 minutes and continues to walk me every morning for about an hour. The love energy exchange has been so healing. I realized with Domingo my previous dog, that it is the need to love something, to be other centered that is so healing. Not only that. When you have a companion that loves unconditionally, especially if you work helping others, or don’t have adequate family support; it can be amazing!
Even my BFF Cheyenne energetically read my heart telling me about the increase in vibrational energy since Angel and I chose each other. He loves sitting at my feet in my office when I am working! I love it too!

Candess,
This is a wonderful story I know my dogs and cats bring me much joy. I have a heart for animals as well. It’s so nice to see that you got so much joy from your dogs. Its the animals that really are loving unconditional beings.

So true Lori. I There’s no better place to learn about unconditional love than our pups!

Angel is just adorable Candess and I’m so glad he found the perfect home with you. They bring us so much joy and comfort. My little dog turned 15 this year and I can’t imagine life without her but we have been bracing ourselves as age is starting to cause some real issues.
candesscampbell says
Tamuria, your 15 year old love is lucky to have you as a mom. Domingo passed in July 2016 so I understand what it is like to love an aging dog. My heart is with you.
Cathy Sykora says
There is nothing like the gentle spirit of an animal to calm you or to make you feel like you’re the most important person in the world. I didn’t grow up with animals but we’ve had pets since we’ve had children and they’re all special.
candesscampbell says
Cathy I feel the same way. I got my first dog in my 40s and I feel like there is something missing without one.

I love this, Candess! I believe into my soul that when our world works correctly, dogs pick their people. I see it all the time. And often events conspire to help make that so 🙂
Give Angel a cookie and a kiss from me!
candesscampbell says
Beautiful way to look at it Susan. Consider Angel cookied and kissed! Thank you.

Love this post, Candess. It made me want to get my next furbaby after the loss of my darling Rosebud – maybe the time is coming soon! I love the first picture in your post – was that Domingo? Beautiful! And Gummidge Angelo is so precious. Congratulations!
candesscampbell says
Oh Reba, I am totally in support of you being rescued soon! Yes, that is Domingo in the first photo. I went back and put some captions on the photos.

Having been the mother to a number of dogs, it’s always hard on me when they have to leave. Sheba I thought would be the last one. After she passed, I didn’t want to take on another dog. My husband and I decided instead to support a local animal shelter. Yes, there was another dog waiting for us. This time a little blind Pomeranian who became CutiePie. She may not see well, but she and the cats have worked it out how to co-exist. Somehow, a home is not a home unless there is a furry one present. So happy that you have made Angel a new addition.
candesscampbell says
What a gift for you and the Pomeranian CutiePie Joyce to have each other. I remember when Friday, my poodle went blind, the cat loved to swap him as he walked by. He still had his smell so she had to watch out! I agree a home is not a home without a “furry one” present. For some reason, the cat and I were not enough. Now I feel like a complete family.

Wow.. that is so crazy that you are so intuitive.. and that you found your little love and little Angel!
candesscampbell says
Thanks Kristen. I hope I was able to show that even when you are connected to intuition, there is still a discernment process. My desire for a dog and my love of Quinn got me off-track, but eventually Gummidge Angelo rescued me!

Gummage Angelo, what an awesome name and what a lovely lovely story. He’s a lucky dog to have found you.

Thank you Sonya. Each day is getting better and better with Angel!
