In a Meditation class I took at the Church of the Divine Man many years ago, I learned about “matching” other people’s energy. For instance, if you are around someone who is angry, you may match him and become angry. When you are matching someone who is peaceful, you feel peaceful. Its important to be aware of others you spend time with and discern whether or not the feelings you have are yours or theirs.
A study I read (cannot find source) involved the growth of three plants. One plant was the control and the plant was watered without any variables. The second plant was watered with water where someone who was very happy and positive held the water for a period of time and the third plant was watered with water that was held for a period of time by someone who was clinically depressed. Of course, the result was the plant watered by the person who was happy grew the most; the control the second and the plant watered by the person who was depressed had stunted growth.
Physics has taught us that everything is energy and it makes sense we affect each other in subtle and powerful ways. When I feel blue, a little grumpy, I will listen to Abraham-Hicks on YouTube to shift my energy and raise my mood. Conversely, when I binge on sad music that I listened to as a young person such as Johnny Cash singing Sunday Morning Coming Down, I have to pick myself up off the floor!

My focus in my work for years has been to empower others to access their intuition and live at their highest vibration.

Who helps you become your better Self? Who leads the way and makes it easier for you to excel and manifest your dreams? Think about who it is that drains your energy and leaves you feeling bad about yourself. Sometimes we can’t change who we are around, but we can use those who are motivating and inspiring to bring us back into balance. Being in nature is another way to shift your energy into a higher vibration and release the negativity.

I truly believe that other peoples negative energy rubs off on others, just as positive energy does.
So I try and stay away from the negative.

Love the plant analogy! I agree with the premise, and love to surround myself with my Christian friends that support me, and we love to spread our joy.

I agree with physics and with you that we affect one another in many ways. Thanks for the reminder especially as we always have to rethink about our attitude towards others and its impact.

I find your articles so enticing Candess! I never thought much about “energy” until I got very ill several years ago. For three long years, I struggled with severe health problems. After that experience, I became very aware of energy and how I’m affected by people. I hadn’t noticed it prior to my bad health. Anyway, I need to remember to revisit your question of “who helps you become your better Self” on a regular basis. 🙂

Happy you are enjoying these Meghan. Thanks for the reminder. I’ll have to find the article I wrote about how I created a health issue by running anger for a year. I’ll re-post it as a blog.

Energy is everything and everything is energy. I absolutely love your article and this information proves that we are all connected. I choose to surround myself with positive people and stay at a higher vibration! Thanks for raising this awareness for everyone.

This makes a lot of sense. All the plants that my husband brought to the house are all growing great. He knows how to take care of them. They are still alive after we go on vacation for two weeks. It has been consistent.

I agree completely that everything is energy. That study about the plants is one I heard about years ago as well. Thanks for the reminder. And I am an avid Abraham-Hicks follower. Her teachings help us all to become who we are meant to be

Love to hear you also am a follower of Abraham-Hicks. Their vibration is one of the highest on the planet! Nice to have a spiritual sister in the group!

This is so true… Last year, I made the decision to cleanse my circle of negative and spiteful people. For so long, I tried to hold onto those people, offer encouragement, and was always met with just more negativity. It’s draining! Finally for my own health I made the decision to step away from the unnecessary negativity, and WOW has it made a difference. At first I felt selfish (which is why it took me so long to finally DO it), but ultimately, we just can’t continue to be pulled down by those who have no interest in personal improvement/development. It just doesn’t make any sense to do that!
Now, I surround myself with happy, positive, encouraging people and I’m healthier mentally and physically too. Great post, Candess!!
Natalie Palombi says
I so agree with this – I have had to cleanse my circle, after allowing myself to be dragged down with negativity and spitefulness for so long. My initial reaction to negativity is to want to help – but not everyone is open to being helped, and offering kind words and positive vibes really only causes them to lash out and be even nastier than they were before! So it’s really important that we surround ourselves with people we admire and want to emulate; if we lift each other up, we all come out ahead!!

This is such a great point.. as many of us are energy suckers or givers and we are deeply affected by those around us.. and we need to remember that others may feed off us so be aware and give off good ju-ju. 😉
candesscampbell says
That’s a great point Kristen – to give off good ju-ju rather than moving away from negative people.
