When you’re an empath, psychic or highly sensitive person (HSP) you experience the world differently than others. On the way to the haunted D. C. Corbin Mansion for the Spiritualism and Psychic Reading Event with author and historian Chet Caskey this last weekend; as I was driving through downtown Spokane I noticed a lot of different colors. I was thinking, as other people see color first, I see energy. A large part of my perception is something that other people don’t get it all. I’m learning to stop trying to communicate what it’s like for me to people who just can’t hear. We pick up so much information unconsciously and those of us who are more sensitive to this information become marginalized by society.
At the event there were people who wanted to connect with a loved one on the other side. Others wanted to know about a relationship. I shared information I received and some information was so personal that due to protecting the participant’s privacy, I didn’t share all I received. Some were skeptics and admittedly so. I told them, yes, you should always be a skeptic and trust yourself over another. Once you build a relationship with a psychic, then you can trust more.

One man in particular appeared to be there at the insistence of someone else. It was interesting. I had to stop and clear my own energy more often than usual to get clear information. Although I protected myself energetically, his fear resulted in his unconsciously throwing daggers at me. Of course, I couldn’t share this in public, and did a major clearing on myself when I got home and enjoyed my new favorite Stash tea – Chocolate Orange.

When you go to see a medium, it is best to have questions you want to ask about or of a loved one. With a psychic have specific questions ready that you want to ask. You can find some sample questions on my website. There are times that people ask questions to test me and I generally won’t answer them. I have been a counselor and a healer for over half my life. I have nothing to prove. Seeing a psychic can be fun and entertaining and when you come to see me, it can also be healing. In a private session, I am more specific and go deeper.
Sometimes what I see has nothing to do with what you were asking and as arrogant as this may sound, it is exactly why you showed up. This happened in a previous event. A man had asked a question and I don’t remember what it was, but what I do remember is I understood it would be helpful for me to do healing on his leg that was in a partial cast or something similar. As I sat myself down on the beautiful hardwood floor of the mansion, arranging my formal dress under me, I started doing Reiki on his leg. I was thinking, hmm. . . Candess, I’m not sure sitting on the floor in a formal at this event is appropriate, but no one objected. I realized I gave him what he needed. I’ve learned over the years to laugh at myself. It is a necessary requirement for being a Psychic Medium.

You are so right about people not knowing what they need. I sometimes face the same thing as a coach…people saying they want A and it turns out they are doing everything in their power to NOT do A. That’s when we have a frank and open discussion about what’s blocking their progress. Great piece…keep on keepin’ on. You do great things for people.

Thanks Jackie. I often see people wavering about what they want to do as a career and I see your services being really helpful too. Once on the right path, it is so much easier!

It is so true and makes sense to me that you often to healing around something different that what client initially asked – and that is why they come to you and you are the expert. It happens more often than not in my services as a coach for women too. They come because life tuned upside down, lost their job, need more confidence, want to start a biz, in a disarray of what to do out in the world next – when it is their mindset of soul that really needs help first. Your gift , the asked for or not, is wheat they need.
Candess Campbell says
Teresa I imagine with the work you do you this would happen as well. What is so exciting is that is what empowerment is. Sometimes we know we need something, but not what we need, but we do know where to go to get help.

I love the stories and I appreciate your closing line: “I’ve learned over the years to laugh at myself. It is a necessary requirement for being a Psychic Medium.” It is a very particular challenge to deal with others’ skepticism and anger, as you mentioned in terms of the man who was unwittingly throwing daggers. As I develop my healing practice, some of the modalities I use, such as Time Heals, involve a bit of mediumship. As a relative newbie, who sometimes is spot on and other times draws a blank, it is a powerful exercise in self-trust and self-acceptance for me to stand fast with whatever wishes to show up – or not – at the moment. I really appreciate this post and the insight into your world and process. When you did a reading for me last year, one of the images you turned up was so very powerful and useful to my understanding. May you keep shining your light and sharing your gift!

Thank you Reba. You are such a beautiful healer and a bright Light!

Candess, first, thanks for giving us (well me) the space to be a skeptic. It gives you even more credibility to your work. Knowing that you’ve been a counselor in your previous work, makes me appreciate that you have a good understanding of people’s needs and wants. We don’t always know what we need and rather focus on what we want.
I’ve personally been to a few psychics, and I must be honest, it gives me the shivers at times. Maybe it’s because they see more in me than I’m willing to share. Or maybe, it’s because they are right and that’s a bit scary for me.
My sister regularly sees a psychic to help her connect with her stillborn baby and my father who passed away 25 years ago. It brings her comfort.
As for me, I know I can reach out to him anytime I want by simply sitting down quietly and letting myself hear the message.
I’m sure you are providing a great service for those who are seeking answers and trust that you are their way of getting to it.
Candess Campbell says
Claudette thank you for sharing your experience with psychics. To me credibility is really important, as are boundaries. I have experienced people being afraid of me because of my abilities and when I teach intuition I am clear that it is not okay to read people without their permission. There are those though who are so open it is difficult not to see what is happening, but it is often their lack of inner boundaries and not the psychic’s. Nearly anyone could read their energy. I was delighted to hear that you can sit down and connect with your father by quieting yourself and letting yourself hear the message. I encourage people to focus in their heart and do that. What usually stops the experience is their self-doubt. Thanks for validating that we can all do this!
Cathy says
Yes, what you do, I imagine people love you or they’re scared to death of you. I’ve had my own spiritual experiences that I don’t share because I don’t want people’s skepticism to muddy it up. I felt closer to my dad after he died. I felt like he was there with me. My son had the same feeling.
Candess Campbell says
I understand Cathy. Connection with a loved one on the other side and our spirituality is a personal experience. Love your work!
