Replacing Shame with Compassion MECFS

April 13, 2021 by @candesscampbell

It feels so good to start feeling better after the MECFS crash! There are so many ways I understand myself and life that I didn’t before. First of all, I am shocked at my denial. Then again, I’m not. You would think I would be more aware of myself having worked as a therapist most of my life. Especially working as a chemical dependency counselor, you would think I would be the master of detecting denial. I saw it in others but could not see it in myself. I was getting “sick.”

When I was working as a counselor in a Federal prison, I used to ask my clients, “Who had the right to be angry in your family?” It really helped clients to look deeper into their family patterns. It never occurred to me to ask “Who had the right to be ill in your home?”

Bingo!  That was my mom. My compassion for my mom is exponential now. When I was younger, I was judgmental of her. She had health issues starting at age 32 which continued throughout her life until she died at age 52; her body full of cancer.

The perfectionist, overachiever, know-it-all part of me focused on fixing my alcoholic dad, who I adored. Later I transferred this to fixing the world. I was a healer! I could not be sick! I have always thought of myself as being on the front line; what today we would call “an essential worker.” Now I understand. Not only did I need to fix everything and everyone, I also could not be sick. This codependent behavior also included not learning to receive and especially not asking for help.

It’s funny. As I write this I think about the $500 utility bill I have. I could not call to get public help unless everyone else who needed it, got theirs first. Note to self again and anyone else who does this – stop it! You have to fill up in order to give from your excess, and not from your need. I’ll sell my old computer.

Back to denial. Once I got it, that I was ill and I was not my mom, I started to blame others. Once I got through this, I was free to look at my own behaviors. Without judgment and blame, I inventoried myself (thanks to 12 step programs) and become clear on how the MECFS affects me and how I can take better care of myself.

As I write, I am watching the latest MECFS videos on Youtube by leaders in the field. (Edit, edit, edit, edit!!!) I am delighted to be one of many and not the problem patient that no one knows what to do with. The shame that I felt for being sick is no longer there. Interesting.  I don’t feel a need to fix people (as much) now, but rather can just sit and listen. In 2006, Dr. Al Morgan, a naturopath drew a circle and divided it like a pie. He pointed and said, this is your part, your responsibility (or something like that) and I just couldn’t hear. I could do it all!

There was a time when friends, acquaintances, etc. would call or email anytime wanting answers to their psychic questions or connect with someone on the other side. I was on call all the time. Today I love my work as a psychic medium and as an author. Being bedridden for 4 months and mostly horizontal for a few years, I am so grateful to schedule clients weekly as I can (dependent upon my brain fog, fatigue, and myalgia.) It’s the delight of my day!

Let me say that again differently. Now that I give out of my excess (as I have taught for many, many years,) when I am with a client or a group, I am so full of love and connected to Spirit. When I connect with client’s loved ones or guides, it is not unusual for me to feel so much I just cry. No pain, just pure love.

There is so much more to share now that I am honest with myself about my health and have healed the shame.

Feelings Buried Alive stay Alive

April 28, 2016 by @candesscampbell

Lately I have been working with clients around grief. What is helpful to know is that when you have a current loss, past losses surface too. It is like they attach to the current loss. Often people try to stop crying, but I encourage allowing yourself to cry and then distracting yourself for awhile and then crying again. Feelings buried alive stay alive and then you over-react to something and the buried feelings surface in an explosion. When I have grieved in the past, there have been times when I would ask a friend to come “babysit” me. It was when it was helpful to not be alone, even if I didn’t want to talk. I would also ask friends to distract me, such as getting me out to a movie, walk or shop. If you are grieving, allow your friends to help.

Kubler-Ross talks about the five stages of grief. They are Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance. These can happen in that order and also happen all within one day in chaos. Anger is often the most problematic feeling. Anger is a secondary emotion that covers up pain and or fear. When you feel anger, take a moment to ask yourself “Am I in pain?” and “What am I afraid of?”  When you do this you can identify the underlying feeling and are able to feel and heal the core of the anger.

The Prostitute Archetype

September 26, 2014 by @candesscampbell

The function of prayer is not to influence God,

but rather to change the nature of the one who prays.

Søren Kierkegaard

Keeping with the 4 main Archetypes that we all share, the 3rd of the 4 is the Prostitute Archetype. Again, this information comes from notes from classes I took from Caroline Myss and Norm Shealy on Medical Intuition and her book Sacred Contracts along with information I gained in my counseling practice and of course, my own life.

What I love about the Prostitute Archetype is that it is truly about Faith. When you are in survival mode, when you believe you will lose all that you have or not get what you truly believe you need in order to survive, the choice is either to compromise your integrity or have faith.

Some of you may know I have struggled a lot with loss.  First was my near death experience (NDE) when I was 14 years old. The second main challenge was when I had a house fire and lost everything (material).  I was at work and my two daughters were home. My daughter called me and said “Mom, the house is on fire!” I told her to get her sister and get out. I was terrified and prayed all the way home. First I saw the ambulance, then my dad and then my children. When I looked at my home burning, I saw an image of Jesus’s hand reaching down into the ashes and bringing out Life! At that time I knew all was well.

Later, there was emotional and material loss after a divorce. I became depressed and could not work for a while. Many of my belongings were stored in the barn at the home where my husband and I had lived. My former husband rented the house and the renter moved all my belongings into a room in the barn where the roof leaked. All my possessions were ruined. Having moved and not having a job at the time, I didn’t have money to pay rent at my apartment. I prayed and told God that if it were his will that I be a bag lady on the street, then so be it. I would minister on the street. Although I was ready to give up everything to do God’s will, I did hold out for a request of warm socks. What happened instead was my life changed. I went into private practice and was gifted with abundance beyond what I had imagined.

In all of these cases, when there was loss, the answer was Faith and the way for me to Faith was and is surrender. Now, this was my response to what had happened. Today when I pray, I usually pray for others and in gratitude for all I have.

The following are pearls, especially if you are one who contemplates, meditates and journals! Enjoy!!!

Prostitute Archetype – The Guardian of Faith

The core issue is how much you are willing to sell your morals, integrity, intellect, word, body, soul for the sake of physical security

  • Engages lessons in integrity and the sale or negotiation of one’s integrity or Spirit due to fears of physical and financial survival for financial gain.
  • Activates the aspects of the unconscious that are related to seduction and control, whereby you are as capable of buying a controlling interest in another person as you are in selling your own power.
  • Selling your talents, ideas, and any other expression of the self or “selling out” your talents, ideas and other expressions of self.
  • Comes into play most clearly when our survival is threatened.
  • Dramatically embodies and tests the power of faith; with faith no one can buy you, you know you can take care of yourself and the Divine is looking out for you – without faith, you will eventually meet the price you cannot turn down.
  • Majority of prostitutes are in bad marriages or in miserable jobs; their inability to move out of toxic environments is totally tied to economics.
  • Who or what is trying to buy, use or contaminate you?  As Jesus with Satan, every time you take a step on your path of personal empowerment, you will meet someone who will want to buy a piece of your soul, rendering you less powerful and themselves more powerful.
  • Shadow side is taking shortcuts such as buying or sharing power, i.e. “I am a friend of a friend of famous person.”
  • One stays in relationships that by name gives them power long after the relationship has gone cold.
  • Confronting the prostitute transforms it into the guardian that watches over your relationship to faith.
  • The prostitute is your ally that alerts you when you shift from the Divine to the physical.
  • Whenever you are in a faith crisis, list your thoughts and fears, especially the ones that are trying to talk you into compromising yourself.
  • Be aware of the prostitute when it appears you could order your life if you had the money, when you stay in relationships so you don’t have to be alone and when you think of doing something unethical or illegal “for the good of the company, family, etc.”
  • Prostitute relationships are the most painful because they involve survival and are often terrifying and humiliating.
  • Do you think before you say your opinion “What will this cost me in terms of popularity or gain?”
  • The prostitute can awaken you to “take up your bed and walk.”  Once you get away from a circumstance that costs you too much money, energy, dignity or time, lasting transformation is possible.
  • Shadow prostitute will urge you to sell out your integrity and your vision of true independence at the first opportunity.

Remembering September 11th!

September 11, 2011 by @candesscampbell

The media alerts us to remember 9/11 on this 10th anniversary. My heart goes out to those who have lost loved ones. I remember the day well. Awakened by my alarm, I turned the TV on to bring me gently into the world after a good night sleep. News flashed immediately with the intensity of alert. I saw the twin towers and the smoke. I allowed myself less than a minute of this before I switched it off.

My immediate reaction, instinct I suppose, was to protect myself. I understand that others may have felt safe watching the news and trying to understand. For me, my first thought was this is big, and I knew people would be watching TV and absorbing the fear as if it were poisonous gas. I knew wherever I went and with whomever I spoke, others would be full of anger, fear and pain. I wanted none of it.

Being an energy healer, immediately, I made a decision to have a different experience than the one the media fed. Motivated to holding the space of love and light, I took a couple deep breaths and focused up out of the top of my head into the heavens. I envisioned a golden white Light, what I call the Christ Light. I felt the energy come down through the top of my head into my body and felt the incredible vibration of love illuminating every cell of my body.  It felt incredible! I understood that I had control over how I felt during this time of crisis. I also knew that suffering due to this tragedy was not helpful to anyone. There was nothing of value in my being fearful or in pain.

At the time of perceived and real crisis, I chose to be detached from the sensationalism of the media. My awareness was heightened realizing how I could control how I felt and what I experienced. This was a practice of learning to control my feelings rather than having my feelings control me. The mind can be used to control physical pain as well.

When we lose people in a crisis such as this, grief is a natural, healing response. It is important to have clear boundaries though, and to feel your own pain and not take on the pain of others. Holding the space for others healing by being present to them allows them their pain. It it is definitely important to feel your feelings.  It is also important to understand that what you choose to focus on is your choice and you can increase your feelings of happiness, gratitude, fear or anger.

On this anniversary of September 11th, choose to feel gratitude for your country.  Remember your loved ones, all your loved ones who have passed and hold the space for those who are currently grieving. Take time to focus on the positive and lift someone’s spirit! Be present to others, love, and be happy.

Remember we are one people, more similar than different, all over the world!

Bless your hearts!
