The Queen Archetype

December 6, 2015 by @candesscampbell

The creativity of your subconscious mind not only shows up in dreams, but also shows up as archetypes in your life. Archetypes are overlying patterns that show up in all cultures that are seeded in the psyche. Some examples of archetypes are queen, mother, judge, teacher and healer. When you begin to look at these patterns in your life, you can unleash your creative energy.

The shadow aspects of our archetypes are fed by our paradoxical relationship to power. We are as intimidated by being empowered as we are by being disempowered.

– Caroline Myss

Whenever I explore an archetype, it is fun to write about one where I have personal experience. In this case, I am writing about my friend’s archetype.

Several years ago at a Conference with Brendon Burchard in Santa Clara, I met an incredible woman, Katie Cavanaugh. We spent the whole workshop learning together and getting to know each other. It was a collaborative relationship made in heaven. We decided to be business mentors for each other and have Skyped every week since.

In addition to focusing on business, we became fast friends. In 2012, she hosted and facilitated the Healer’s Gathering Workshop at the HarmonyHouse in Sisters, Oregon. I was delighted to be invited to be a keynote speaker. I decided to facilitate a DNA Activation with this group of 100 participants. She invited me to come and stay with her in the guest room (which is now called Candess’s room!)

Katie planning Gathering

As the pre-event unfolded, her house began to fill up with other guests and eventually I was moved to a blow up bed in her office. I found myself reacting, feeling hurt and angry. It just happened that my friend Cheyenne from Colorado was visiting her friend near Sisters and I was able to meet with her and talk. Cheyenne and I have known each other for many years and she is like a sister to me. She helped me realize that my control issue here was a safety issue and these kinds of reactions generally manifest for me in my own home and wherever I sleep.

Before the event I felt I needed to meet with Katie and clear what happened for me. I invited Katie to have lunch with Cheyenne, her friend and I so we could talk. The three of us were seated at a patio table as Katie walked in. She was majestic in her presence, carrying herself with confidence and grace. She sported a large smile and introduced herself and the whole ambience changed. Cheyenne said as soon as she saw her – she is a Queen. I immediately got it. My friend Katie Cavanaugh had the Queen archetype! We talked about my reaction to being downgraded from my own room to a blow up bed and just being able to share this with Katie created the safety I needed.

More importantly, knowing that Katie had the Queen Archetype shifted my relationship with her and I was able to understand and honor how amazing she is and how delighted I am to work with this powerful, intrepid woman!

You may have Queens in your life as well.

Characteristics of the Queen Archetype

  • Makes sure everything is exactly as it should be
  • Takes charge
  • Dominates her court and give orders
  • Is benevolent and takes care of her subjects
  • Is dignified, striking and awesome
  • Has a clear sense of responsibility
  • Plans and gets things done
  • Imparts to her subjects what she believes in important
  • Empowers her subjects to connect to the community and return to her

Shadow side of the Queen

  • Demanding
  • Aggressive
  • Vengeful
  • Heads will role if they don’t follow the rules

Having realized the nature of the Queen Archetype, I understood even more clearly the value of my friendship and collaborative relationship with Katie Cavanaugh. My main archetype is that of a Spiritual Teacher, but my energy is soft and responsive. When I watched her facilitate the Healer’s Gathering I was awed as many of us are in the presence of her majestic command.

Caroline Myss, a medical intuitive and the author of Sacred Contracts, a book on archetypes, has been my mentor through her workshops and books for nearly 20 years. She also has the Queen Archetype. In fact, I think many of the powerful women I have sought out as teachers share this quality.

By understanding and working with the Queen Archetype you will learn to identify these characteristics in yourself or in others. If you have the Queen archetype, be aware of how you affect others in your life. Your intensity may be misunderstood. Use your powerful persona to influence and guide others. Surround yourself with friends who support your vision and are willing participants in your Queendom!

If you have friends, family or co-workers who have the Queen Archetype, take a look at how you can benefit from their ruling and how you can support yourself and the Queen by this awareness. Share with them what you have learned and find your place in the royal family.

Awareness of the Archetypes can help you heal yourself and access your natural path to move toward your Divine Soul purpose.

Living in Two Worlds

February 8, 2013 by @candesscampbell

Interesting how sometimes we don’t know how other people see us. I have been a counselor, teacher, intuitive reader and healer for 30 years. I understand I am seen that way, and many years ago, because of my healing and intuitive abilities, just like many of you, I was seen as strange or weird.

What I haven’t been seen as is a businesswoman. I question this sometimes because most people know I have my counseling practice, my intuitive business and travel internationally, to Japan, India, Ireland and other places facilitating workshops.

A typical day may look like this. I see a client in my office, have a phone session with a client on the east coast, see another client in my office, Skype with a client in the Dominican Republic and finish with another Skype session in Singapore. I love the ability to connect with people all over the world!

Now, I have a new business that excites me to no end. It is an app that equalizes the opportunity for success. I came from poverty and when I was a young mother there were times that I struggled. Now, I feel blessed having a successful business and I have the freedom to live the life I desire.

My goal is to make this iLivingApp available to you as well. There is nothing that pleases me more than to empower others as other people have empowered me. Here is an opportunity to do that. Check out my new website and email me and I would be happy to help you into this business as well. Finally, there is something that really excites me that is affordable for all and can equalize the opportunity for success.

Interview with Swami Samayananda Part 2

September 2, 2011 by @candesscampbell

This interview was taken at Yashodhara Ashram in British Columbia, Canada on the beautiful Kootenay Lake.

(Some sections have been edited for grammar.)

Candess: When I hear you talk, it sounds like what’s happening is that you are keeping the truth of what Swami Radha had in terms of living out what she taught, to truly keep living it and not have a separation.

Swami Samayanda: Yes, and no matter what the changes are that happen, there is that very solid core that cannot change, because that is what an Ashram is. It is the center of one teacher’s teachings and we are all committed to that. To what she gave us and in our gratitude, that is what we give back. These have to be applied to what is happening in the world. Our focus now is to be carbon neutral by 2013. We are not cut off from the world. Our sustainability, how do we care for our forests? Our development, Yashodhara Heights, three cabins that we built are all extremely green. We are very much in tune with what is happening with the world and what the concerns are in the world, and bringing them right in to our community, right here. We are always asking. We can go back to her teachings and it is all there. Carbon neutral, it is all there. Sustainability, it is all there. We say, “I am sustained by Divine Light, I am sustained by the teachings.” So how do we bring that out then, into the actual physical place we work and to the people who come.

Candess:  That is exciting. The more I hear about this, I am so grateful I am here. My connection with the Spokane Radha House has been mostly through Yoga for Health and Healing and the Dream Yoga. There are a lot of forms of yoga other than the physical. Can you tell me more about yoga?

Swami Samayanda: It is interesting in the West, we have taken one yoga practice out of the entire yogic system and we call it yoga. It’s basically Hatha Yoga. It’s working with the body. It is mainstream. When you say the word yoga, everybody thinks of a studio and doing postures and that kind of thing. Yoga, actually if you look at the original sutras, the yoga sutras by Patanjali; asanas are a very tiny, tiny, part of the yogic system. Their original intent is to prepare the body to be still for meditation and other yogic practices.  I see that changing in the West, where a lot of people were just interested in the physical part of it. More and more I hear people say, I know there is more. What more is there? There has got to be more to this. There are probably about 39 kinds of yoga, of which Hatha is just one. What Swami Radha brought back were several that we work with here.

We work with Dream Yoga, which is the interpretation, learning to interpret our own dream messages. We work with Kundalini Yoga which is the study of, really of how we use energy, how we express ourselves, the choices we make and how that comes out in our speech, in our behavior, in our thoughts. We also work with the Yoga of Light and our primary way of doing that is through the standing practice of doing the Divine Light Invocation. We focus on Mantra Yoga, which is the yoga of chanting, sound, vibration. We work with Karma Yoga. Karma Yoga is the basis actually of our Ashram which is the yoga of action. Work is service. It is different than just volunteering. We actually do the yoga and ask ourselves what we are learning from it. What is the work teaching us? It is not just doing the work, getting the work done itself, its what we are learning in that process.
