Got the Wintertime Blues? Seasonal Depression (SAD)

January 27, 2016 by @candesscampbell

I am delighted to have this guest blog by Dr. Patrick Dougherty. He is one of the most pure healers that I know. I am indebted to him for being such an incredible support in my own life over the years!

The days are starting to get longer, but it is still beginning to get dark by 5 pm. There are fewer sunny days. For many people the gray on the outside mirrors gray on the inside.

Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) incidence in the Pacific Northwest is estimated to be as high as 30% in adults. SAD is the depression, lethargy, fatigue and even detachment from life that many feel as the sun becomes a memory. Many health professionals attribute SAD, at least partially, to vitamin D3 deficiency.

Vitamin D3 is a fat soluble hormone, a chemical messenger for about 2000 chemical processes in the human body. D3 deficiencies are found in most autoimmune diseases, especially Multiple Sclerosis which has a much higher incidence in the Pacific Northwest; and in most cases of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.

No surprise that D3 could be a factor in SAD. If you are one of the millions living under an emotional dark cloud in the winter you might be interested in this account of a recent patient visit in my chiropractic office.

The patient had suffered two significant head and neck traumas in a little more than a two month period. Treatment consisted of various interventions designed to help her brain, her pain and her headaches. On this day she stated that she was catching a cold. Whenever this happens I offer the patient a 25,000 IU dose of liquid vitamin D. Often this stops the cold flu symptoms in their tracks.

The next day I received a call from a very excited woman who wanted to come in and purchase a bottle of D3 liquid. She not only had no cold, but her brain had more clarity and her mood was better than it had been in a long time. A happy husband paid the $28 cash price for a 6 month supply of liquid D3.

I recommend D3 for just about everyone, I like the liquid D3 because all hormones are fat soluble and, I believe, more easily utilized in liquid form. D3 is good for the whole family, and for most people it costs less than 20 cents a day. If you have the wintertime blues, come in and get your own bottle of D3.

Astrological Forecast for March 2015

March 2, 2015 by @candesscampbell

ray of light

March 5th: Full Moon in Virgo/Pisces at 10:05 am PST. The final Full Moon of winter in Virgo/Pisces coincides with completions for those with planets or chart angles in the mutable signs of Virgo/Pisces near 15 degrees.

March 12th: Mercury enters Pisces at 8:51 pm PDT. The collective communications of the global village turn toward the intuitive dimensions as Mercury reenters the mystical sign of Pisces where it joins Neptune, Chiron, and the Sun for some spiritual solace two days after transiting Mars in Aries triggered changes and eruptions between transiting Uranus in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn.

March 14th: Saturn turns retrograde in Sagittarius at 8:02 am PDT. Transiting Saturn pauses in the sign of Sagittarius at 4 deg 55 min and reverses direction after 7 months of forward motion. Saturn will retrace its steps from March 14th through August 1st 2015 when it will turn direct in Scorpio at 28 deg 16 min.

March 16th: Uranus in Aries & Pluto in Capricorn final exact square aspect.  The two Cardinal Titans Uranus and Pluto complete their 7th and final global initiation agreement that began in June 2012 and completes this month.  Uranus will now take the lead ahead of Pluto going forward, although their respective retrograde cycles will reunite them in another square aspect within 2 degrees of each other from December 2015 through the winter season of 2016.

March 17th: Venus enters Taurus at 3:14 am PDT. Lady Venus returns to terra firma placing her feet back on Earth after distancing herself from a bittersweet Valentine’s fling with Mars in Aries. Just as a single spark can ignite a forest fire, so too can wings of wax tempt human folly when flying too close to the garish Sun.

March 20th:  New Moon/ Solar Eclipse in Pisces at 2:36 am PDT & Vernal Equinox at 3:45 pm PDT. Today’s Solar Eclipse in the final degree of Pisces takes center stage in the morning and then leaves the stage placing the afternoon spotlight on the Sun’s arrival in Aries ushering in the spring season.

March 30th: Mercury enters Aries at 6:43 pm PDT.   Fleet-footed Mercury catches up with the spring team of the Sun, Mars & Uranus in the sign of Aries just in time for spring training.

March 31st: Mars enters Taurus at 9:26 am PDT. The warrior planet leaves Aries to pursue Lady Venus in Taurus only to find himself distracted by the allure of a more harmonious feminine aspect with today’s Moon in Virgo.

Got the Wintertime Blues?

Note that this blog is timely for those of us in the north, but Vitamin D is important all year long!

April’s Cardinal Cross: The Seasons of Our Lives In One Month

April 7, 2014 by @candesscampbell

Many people have been affected by the upcoming energy of the Grand Cross so I asked my astrologer to help us to understand what it means.

Enjoy this guest blog by Lee of Stillwaters Astro!             http://stillwatersastro.com/             –  Candess

Much has been discussed in recent months about the meaning and potential effects of April’s “Cardinal Grand Cross.”  Just what does it mean to experience the combined effects of four planets each playing its own role in one of the four Cardinal signs forming a very close alignment in the shape of a cross in the same month?

The four Cardinal signs of the Tropical Zodiac are Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn that signify the beginning of the four seasons with the Sun’s annual arrival at zero degrees of longitude in each Cardinal sign. Cardinal signs can be described as “initiatory” corridors that usher in the official arrival of the Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter seasons each year.

Just as the seasons change with the arrival of Spring (birth), Summer (growth), Autumn (decline), and Winter (death), so do human lives in the course of each passing season and year.

Grand_Cross_by_CaptainJuu

The April 2014 Cardinal Grand Cross consists of a unique alignment of the planets Uranus in the sign of Aries, Jupiter in the sign of Cancer, Mars in the sign of Libra, and Pluto in the sign of Capricorn. These four planets form the symbol of a “Cross” within a single degree of an exact alignment that reaches its closest aspect during April 20th – 23rd.  This Cardinal Grand Cross is further distinguished by its placement near the midpoint of two eclipses during the final two weeks of April.

The combined effects of so much focused celestial energy compressed within two weeks indicates completions and new beginnings both globally and individually as we experience the energies of all four seasons within a single month.

Stillwaters Astrology – April 2014

April 5th: Venus enters Pisces.  The planet of beauty, love, and relationships joins Mercury, Chiron, and Neptune in the transcendent sign of Pisces bringing a welcome soothing quality to an otherwise intense month of April.

April 7th: Mercury enters Aries.  The planet of communications picks up its pace as it departs sensitive Pisces and enters the aggressive fire sign of Aries.  Mercury will receive an up close preview to report to us as it aspects the key Cardinal Grand Cross players of Jupiter, Uranus, Pluto, and Mars from April 14th – 16th.  Those with planets or chart angles between 11 to 15 degrees in the Cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra, or Capricorn will be most affected by April’s Cardinal Grand Cross.

April 14th: Pluto retrogrades in Capricorn.  The planet of transformation reverses direction on the eve of a Total Lunar Eclipse.  As Pluto steps backwards in Capricorn for the first time since April 2013 it partners with Mars already in retrograde during next week’s Cardinal Grand Cross while Jupiter and Uranus maintain their course in direct forward motion.

April 15th: Full Moon in Libra/Aries Total Lunar Eclipse.  Today’s Total Lunar Eclipse is analogous to the April 15th, 1995 Lunar Eclipse that preceded the catastrophic bombing of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma within four days on the morning of April 19th, 1995. Easter arrives this year on Sunday, April 20th, 2014, so it’s wise to be very conscious in activities with so many unpredictable collective dynamics during the second half of April.

April 19th: Sun enters Taurus. The Sun arrives in the earthy fixed sign of Taurus on the eve of Easter just in time to provide some ballast and grounding for the closest alignment of the initiatory Cardinal Grand Cross during the next four days.

April 23rd: Mercury enters Taurus. Just as the Cardinal Grand Cross completes its peak performance (including an exact 90 degree square aspect between Uranus and Pluto on April 21st), Mercury lends support to the Sun in Taurus by helping citizens of the global village return to terra firma and adjust to April’s celestial currents.

April 28th: New Moon in Taurus Solar Eclipse.  April concludes with a Solar Eclipse in the earth sign of Taurus. After the transformational events of the past four weeks we now arrive at an opportune time to sow seeds for new beginnings.

Seasonal Affective Disorder and Moving into the Light!

October 7, 2011 by @candesscampbell

When I awoke yesterday morning I noticed my dog Domingo lying in the small triangle of sunshine in the room. This spurred me to think about how important it is for us to move into the Light.

When I was a young person I often found myself in difficult situations, resisting and arguing and ending up in some pretty dark places, especially within myself. Depression was a common theme and it seems I was often angry and reactive.

Thankfully I have grown through and out of that, but I realize even today, I am extremely affected by my surroundings. The good news is I have choice where I go, who I see, and what I spend my time focusing upon.

You may relate to this as well. Many people suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder and their mood changes dramatically over the fall and winter months. Even if you don’t tend to be depressed, negative or reactive, you may respond this way internally if not externally.

Some of the symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder are increased appetite and weight gain, increased sleep and drowsiness, social withdrawal, being lethargic, unhappiness and irritability, and loss of interest in work and other activities.

So, what does it mean to move into the Light?I have some ideas.

  • Take time to get outdoors during the day, even for 10 – 15 minutes. Take breaks and get sunshine and fresh air to change your mood. Even standing in the rain with an umbrella can be stimulating and clear your head.
  • Engage in conversations that are fun and playful, but not at another’s expense.
  • Spend more time watching inspirational TV shows and less violence and murder.
  • Pull away from the busy-ness of the world and sit quietly and just breathe.
  • Read positive, inspirational books.
  • Spend time with those you love and focus on them. Play together, laugh together, but leave talk about the work stress for another time.
  • Write out a gratitude list. Studies show this is more effective to do weekly than daily.

For Seasonal Affective Disorder, you could also take a weekend trip to somewhere warm like Las Vegas or Reno. Trips are inexpensive and make a big difference. After checking with your doctor you could take Vitamin D. Also, you can use Light Therapy. Light panels are available online at Amazon under $100. I have used them in the past and they work great! Enjoy pulling in and also getting out!
